Fun with Family

In April we had some delightful guests! My brother and his family came for Master S' baptism and were able to stay for a week and my parents also were able to come for a week. We went to Eagle Creek Park, the Children's Museum (apparently the largest one in the world, just one of the things we learned this time), we played and played and played outside. The swing set proved to be a very worthwhile investment - although I think my Dad spent 90% of his time here pushing the kids on the swings. Big D was in heaven! We also celebrated Master S' baptism and had several rousing games of Banana-Gram and Ticket to Ride when the children were in bed ... and we watched the new Sherlock Holmes movie. One night we got a babysitter for the kids and went out to dinner as adults - yes, it was wonderful and yes, we will have to make this a tradition every time we are together! Amazing how much you can talk and enjoy each other's company when there isn't constant interruption! We went to dinner at O'Charley's, one of J.D.'s and my favorite places to eat here, and then headed downtown to walk the canal district that goes through the middle of Indy and drive down Meridian Street - which is famous for its beautiful, old, huge homes and trees. We had a great time introducing everyone to what a great city Indy is! There is a running joke in our family that no matter where my Dad goes, he always knows somebody. Growing up we would be in obscure, off the map places and my Dad would always run into a cousin or a friend from college or high school ... so why should Indianapolis be any different? We stopped to see the war memorial on the Canal Walk and noticed they had a memorial for those who had received the Congressional Medal of Honor. Thinking it was just for Indiana residents we casually were looking at it and discovered that my Dad's uncle was listed - Bernard Fisher! So, he may not have actually 'run into someone', but we did know someone listed on the memorial - what are the chances?!?
